Unravel

Here is one of the latest illustrations I did. It was based the first Bjork song I heard, which made me become an instant fan of hers:
While you are away
My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin
Our love
In a ball of yarn

He'll never return it

So when you come back
We'll have to make new love

He'll never return it

When you come back
We'll have to make new love

While you are away
My heart comes undone
Slowly unravels
In a ball of yarn
The devil collects it
With a grin
Our love, our love,
In a ball of yarn

He'll never return it

When you come back
We'll have to make new love

He'll never return it

When you come back
We'll have to make new love

He'll never return it

When you come back
We'll have to make new love

My hands are supposed to be the Devil's... The picture is a bad quality... Sorry

I know...

I know I haven't updated in a while.. So there goes the daily sketch blog. I will try harder! I've just been swamp with school work lately, and I haven't had a whole lot of free time. Not really an excuse... but there it is. Here is a preview of my new strip... still working out the kinks. I still have to add the back grounds and text bubbles... I might just use an already made non-digital one until I figure out this weird PS configuration that came when I updated to CS4. The Strip is Called Bovine Blues. I do the art, and my friend Andy does the writing
Anyway, I hope you all are doing great! Happy Samhain!

so... very.. tired

Yea.. I am tired. My weekend did no good for my educational life. Not for a long while will I do that again. I drew up this composition... I kind of wanna do a finished piece, more towards a halloweeny illustration. We'll see.

LIGHT!

I haven't worked with light much, so this was hard for me. I think it turned out alright... The teacher told me "i knew you'd mess it up if i left you alone long enough!" so he helped me out, to say the least, lol

fazed out

Too much going on this weekend. Needless to say, I didn't got much studying in. I did go the art store and bought myself a huge-ass bottle of Pelikan Ink.. that stuff is great! So I decided to do a sailor moon sketch!

Missed a few days

I've been over studying lately and felt compelled to take a few days off to just relax. Which I did, but now I have a lot of work to catch up on! Oh well, such is life. I have an old drawing that I inked for the practice of brush inking... and a Columbine that is going to be for my Colorado coloring book.

Wicked Witch!~

I am still caught up on the skottie young designs.. So, I sketched the wicked witch of the west! I read "the life and times of the wicked witch" in the past, and this sketch does no justice to Elphaba, because she wasn't actually wicked. However, as a character design, I really liked it, it reminds me of my boss from Carl's pharmacy, Judy.

Meh

I am getting pretty excited to be working on an ad for next week's graphic design course. We had to pick out a toy from a box to make it into an ad.. Of course I gravitated towards the dinosaur hand puppet... Have some ideas, I'll see how it pans out!
I picked the latest Fables book today, that series is great! I kind of really like the new villain, seems so much better then Ghepetto. I did a sketch of Jack Pumpkinhead from return to Oz... still into the whole Oz thing... haha

Interesting day

We had some artist from Carbondale, James Surls, come speak to the art classes. It was quite interesting, because I wasn't sure whether the guy knew what he was talking about or not, but it was conversational none the less. He was talking about the state of art students and how they feel like their work is never good enough, etc, etc. We've all been there. He said to just pretend like we're good enough and accept your gift for what it is and embrace it wholly. He also talked about voices in our heads and to listen to them... Quack? That is still to be determined... Anyway, I sketched him and some classmates

Wizard of Oz

I just finished the Skottie Young version of the Wizard of Oz: It was fantastic! The character designs were so great... My sketch fails in comparison! Its so fluid and imaginative. I can't wait for Return to Oz... which may be already out... I don't know much in the comic's world anymore.

Hrmmm...

I haven't done much digital work to speak of whatsoever, which is why I am hoping this graphic design program helps me out. I have messed around with photoshop in the past, but just a tiny bit. I think if I keep at it and keep messing around and reading online tutorials i can get some semblance of skills. Oh well.. Heres my really bad job of Fry from Futurama... It was done pretty quickly. But probably not because I am a total noob when it comes to this stuff....

friday... Again!

I didn't post last night.. Something came up, but don't worry, you guys get double sketches today! I've been completely abandoned this weekend! Oh well. Gives me time to catch up on my reading and gaming.
The horse demon thing was just a sketch i was doodling in drawing class that i decided to ink today. I am pretty happy at the way it turned out. I am excited to start brush inking more often, I have forgotten how much fun it can be! The other one is some random Mesa State College building sketch... I think it was Wuben, I don't know...

composition test

this was supposed to be a drawing class test... I think I did okay. I hope. I will probably develop this further.

Bender

Well... I didn't know how to make a realistic bender without completely distorting the original idea... I think my brain is just not working creatively this week... So I opted out for a "comic-book" style Bender. I need more brush practice. Its a very versatile tool, and I am starting to lose the ability to handle it finely... MORE PRACTICE !

Carl's JR has low-carb burgers??

Hahah... I thought that was great. So great that I had to buy one. It was delicious! So much more so then the school crap... Big news everyone! I didn't fail my music appreciation test! Excitement. I'll have to double my efforts for class, or which I have no interest in.
I'm working on some more drawings, I've just been procrastinating with some Kingdom Hearts.... I need to hurry up and beat it, because I need the closure.

Monday, September 7, 2009

Well today was pretty uneventful. I went to class, Aced my Japanese test, and then went shopping for food products at wally world. Exciting. I am gunna do a "series" of these Futurama character vignettes, its was actually fun drawing Leela. I want to do a full figure drawing after I finish Fry and Bender.
My RA looked at my sketchbook today and saw a drawing of a girl I did in the cafeteria, and asked whether or not she consented, to which I replied "no." He told me that was kind of creepy, to which I repeated "no," once again. "Isn't it pretty weird just drawing people without consent, is that even legal?" To which I replied "its just a sketch and I'm an art major, you really expect me to ask everyone I draw their permission to be sketched?" Hah... I guess it doesn't sound as funny when I write it down.

Weekends...

I seemingly don't post on the weekends... I am drawing during those periods however. I think I will probably be more lenient on the weekends. I have to find time to socialize and take some relaxed time for myself! Right?
I promised Dan I would draw the Futurama trio, which I will do tomorrow. I just got a little busy... Go figure. Apart then that... Not a whole lot new, just study, study study! GANBARE!

This friday...

This friday... not much to say today.

Thursdays!

So far I have been pleased with how much i have been drawing because of my daily blog. Its something that I now have more freedom to do, which is a great thing. I have seeing better observational skills in my work... SO thats a plus!

We finally actually started doing stuff in my graphic design class, I have a good feeling about the class now. Apart from that, its been study, study, study.... I need to make more friends, haha.

mav spirit?

Heres my daily sketch... its my school's mascot. Another bull... Yea.
I don't think I am going to be staying in the dorms next semester, its not as glamorous as it would appear to be from the outside. Hah. See you guys tomorrow! Sayonara, Konnbanwa!

Tuesday

I didn't get the sketch in on time, I am counting it though! Anyway... We actually started working on Illustrator.. after 3 weeks of being in class... Seriously. We learned the Pen tool.. Excitement. I still have my test on the mouse features this thursday. Seriously.
I think my roommate has gone AWOL... I seriously have not seen him in like a week... Doesn't even sleep in the room- I am starting to get worried... hah.. My other suite mates got scared off by the Watchmen movie, they'd rather see scarred on MTV2, oh the simple pleasures of being young college boys.

tell me why I don't like mondays...

Yea... I didn't do any studying this weekend. I felt like a fool coming into my Political science class... lets not even mention Japanese... But yea, being sore and achy from god knows what is not fun. I could barely manage to get up... Anyway, my drawing class is shaping up better now, the teach is actually quite good, and now that everyone is dusted off, people are producing nice stuff.
I just hope I don't fail my Graphic Design test tomorrow on how to operate a mouse... Seriously.
The first drawing was an exercise on radiation... The heads are not that old, but I finally uploaded them.

Sunday

I know i didn't post something yesterday, but I promise i drew stuff! I saw the english version of Ponyo today... that movie made me smile all around. It was such a delight to watch. The movie seemed slow at first, but was really well paced. The colors were so great... and the backgrounds were all so aesthetically pleasant to watch. God, that movie was so good.
I also went to Andy's house for some home cooking his mother made for family dinner night. The homemade peach pie- AMAZING- I should've eaten more.... oh well.

Friday!~

Its friday! I studied my Japanese characters intensively today... I think i am finally getting a hang of the basic hiragana... but not the ten-ten stuff etc.... its a little confusing. Its a pretty difficult language to learn... but no one said it would be easy!
I mostly sketched absent minded stuff... We had a dorm meeting last night and I was not really paying attention to anything that was being said so i just started doodling... Then I went to the Pita Pit that accepts my college's "Mav Bucks" and sketched the side of the college.
I also got my room mate, a little eccentric fellow, but then again... everyone in my suite thinks i have "weird" and "different" taste.

SKetches

I am adjusting to living with young people. I am pretty much the oldest person living in the dorms! heh... Oh well, for the most part everyone in my suite is pretty chill.
I am trying to draw daily now, which is a good thing. I am usually busy with my non-major classes, which take up a lot of my time. However, I usually do spend time sketching around campus, and my cheesy "still" life's which usually encompass my nalgene bottle and cellphone...
Anyway, just some random people and stills...

Art Blog

I need to get photoshop. Once I do, I will be posting a lot. I swear it. I've been having trouble using gimp, and I can't seem to find anything that I could get some use out of.
